When Eaton’s opened its College Street store in Toronto in 1930, the showpiece was a series of grand function spaces on the seventh floor designed by the eminent French architect, Jacques Carlu. Modeled after the opulent reception rooms of the great ocean liners of the 1930s, Carlu’s vision was reflected in every “Art Moderne” detail from the pale monochromatic colour scheme to the exquisite Lalique crystal fountain. The Waterworx Company was retained for the restoration and rebuilding of the original fountain.
